All About Bunkbeds
Bunkbeds may be the way to go when you are considering designing a child or teenager’s room. Even if your child does not share a room with one of his siblings, bunkbeds can come in handy. Of course, if you have two kids sharing a room, bunkbeds are the ultimate space saver.
There are more options than ever before when it comes to choosing bunkbeds for your child’s room. These include metal frame bunkbeds and wooden bunkbeds. Some of the options that you can choose today are as follows:
Twin Over Twin Bunk Bed
The classic twin over twin bunk bed is the perennial favorite when it comes choices in bunkbeds. The beds are usually stacked vertically, one on top of the other, with a ladder going up to the top bunk. Siblings who share a room will often fight over who gets the top bunk and look for parents to intervene. It is better to be fair and allow each of the children to take turns getting the top bunk. You can do it weekly, which is a better option.
In recent years, the twin over twin bunk bed has evolved from a simple stacked bed to an “L” shaped bunk bed. This adds a bit of depth and is more aesthetically pleasing in the room, but often defeats the purpose of bunkbeds which is to save room.
Some wooden bunkbeds have wooden drawers under the bottom bunk. This saves even more space as the drawers can be used as part of a dresser. If you have more than two children in a room, you can add another bed, although not on top of the bunkbeds. If you have three children in a room, a set of bunkbeds and a single bed is probably the best option for you.
You can find the twin over twin bunk bed with a metal frame for under $200 online and in most stores. Not only does this bunk bed save space, but it also saves quite a bit of money as you would normally pay about $200 for a mattress set alone, without the frame. If you want to save money and space, consider the twin over twin bunk bed for your childrens’ room.
Twin Over Full Bunk Bed
The twin over full bunk bed came out in the 1990s and has proven to be very popular with people who have one older child who sleeps in the full bed on the bottom bunk or a child who just wants to have extra sleeping space. Three people can technically sleep in a twin over full bunk bed, two on the bottom and one on the top, making this one of the best bunkbeds for sleepovers.
The twin over full bunk bed is usually made of a metal frame. The colors that they come in vary but are usually blue, black, red or white. A twin over full bunk bed is often close to the same price as a twin over twin bunk bed, so many parents opt for the twin over full bunk bed for that extra bit of sleeping room. There is still a metal ladder that makes getting up to the top bunk easier and rails on the top bunk as there are with all bunk beds.
Futon Bunk Bed
A western style futon is a sofa that folds down into a bed. The futon itself is a thin mattress and resembles an eastern style futon. What is nice about the futon bunk bed is that it can be folded into a sofa when not in use as a bed. The top part of the bunk bed will always be a twin bed. The bottom part of the futon bunk bed can either be a sofa or a full bed. When used as a bed, the futon bunk bed is a twin over full bunk bed. When not in use, the bottom bunk can be folded into use as sofa for watching television or entertaining friends. Many older children like the idea of these bunkbeds even if they do not share a room with siblings because this saves space and gives them the opportunity to have a sofa in their room.
If they have friends over and need extra sleeping space, the futon bunk bed can be folded down to allow for the extra bed. This is a nice alternate to an ordinary bed in a child’s bedroom.
Full Over Full Bunk Bed
The full over full bunk bed is popular with parents who realize that their children will outgrow their twin beds when they become teenagers and long for a full bed on which to sleep. The full over full bunk bed involves two full sized beds vertically stacked with one another. They are usually made of a metal frame and have a ladder leading to the second bunk. They are just like the twin over twin bunk bed only they both have a full mattress. This makes sleeping more comfortable for the older children.
When you are shopping for bunkbeds, you have a myriad of different choices. Bunkbeds should be considered whenever you are looking for a bed for your children, especially younger children. They are economical and are usually a great favorite with kids of all ages.
You can have double the sleeping space in one room by installing bunkbeds instead of just single beds in the room. If you opt for wooden bunkbeds that have drawers on the bottom, you can save even more space. Even if your child does not have any brothers or sisters that he plans to share the room with, you should still think about the future, the possibility of overnight guests and the fact that your child will probably enjoy sleeping in bunkbeds more than he or she will enjoy sleeping in an ordinary bed.
Bunkbeds can be found wherever beds are sold. You can even shop for bunkbeds online and in many cases, get a better deal online than you can if you go to the store.
