I’m a red person – I love the color red, I have a red lounge and so all my accessories are red. But recently my brother moved in and his favorite color is green.

Green! But I’m Red.

So it was decided that we should make the guest room a green oasis for him. His own piece of green in a sea of red – so to speak.

The spare room was pretty plain anyway so it was like starting with a blank canvas – pale cream walls and brown mottled carpet. We found a tin of ‘Kermit frog’ green paint in the specials bin at the hardware store, so that become a feature wall behind the bed head.

My brother had a collection of images and prints that we framed and made a wall display above the bed on our newly painted green wall. We then found some ‘dark forrest green’ block-out drapes to cover the windows so he could sleep late. And the room was starting to take shape.

But it was missing something and we could not figure it out until we read an article in a magazine about decorating with green rugs. Aha that’s what we need – a green rug. My brother finally settled on a shaggy green rug a similar shade to the feature wall and his room was complete.

And I’m not going to tell him this… but his green oasis in the middle of all my red is really quite nice.
